Write an argument about a local issue.
Write a three-page argument in which you explore both sides of a contentious local issue.
This essay should:
1. Identify and describe a contentious local issue.
2. Explain why this issue is important to you personally, and identify which side of the issue you support.
3. Describe at least three of your reasons for supporting the position you hold.
4. Describe the opposing argument. Try to identify at least one part of their position that you can agree with, and then explain why this position is ultimately flawed.
5. Encourage the reader to some particular action regarding this issue (write a congressman, boycott a product, etc.)
I would encourage you to think about developing each of these points into its own paragraph, but you should feel free to develop your own structure.
In the process of covering these five points, your essay should also:
• Include at least three references to outside sources
• Cite all sources in either MLA or APA format
• Be carefully proofread for grammatical errors
• Be 2½ to 3 pages

The writing assignment this week is to take a side on a local issue in Connecticut. Use this Discussion Board as an opportunity to describe the issue you're choosing to write about and to explain why you want to write about it. What is your position on the issue, and how do you plan to find out more information about it?
