Assignment task: Please identify and articulate 21st-century biases and assumptions about the world, about what you think/believe is valuable and venerable, about how you determine the meaning of human existence, etc. The point of identifying your biases and assumptions is to better understand why you think and feel the way that you do, and why you make the decisions and judgments that you do (about what is good, bad, preferable, desirable, etc.). Really consider upbringing, education, socio-economic status, childhood experiences, and so forth.
What do you think technology is? Obviously, there are many different types of technological instruments, devices, and systems that achieve all sorts of things, but what is the phenomenon of technology itself? And what role does it play in human life?
Finally, contrast Kant with Rousseau. We have been presented with two very different pictures of civilization-and the role science and technology play in it-so please articulate the differences. Are you inclined toward one or the other? Explain.
