Hypothesis test for difference between two population variances.
A professor in the accounting department of a business school claims that there is much more variability in final exam scores of students taking the introductory accounting course as a necessity than for students taking the course as part of a main in accounting. Random samples of 13 non accounting majors (group 1) and 10 accounting majors (group 2) are taken from the professor's class roster in his large lecture, and the following results are computed based on the final exam scores:
n1 = 13 S12 = 210.2
n2 = 10 S22 = 36.5
At the 0.01 level of significance, is there evidence to support the professor's claim?
