Scientists have distinguished two alternative explanations for the origins of modern
(anatomically and behaviorally) humans over the last 200,000 years: the replacement model and the multiregional model. By comparing and contrasting prehistoric Africa and Europe, evaluate how well each theory accounts for the archaeological record. Which do you think is most correct? What may the evidence suggest about the behavior of modern humans relative to our hominid relatives? Be sure to discuss the evidence yielded by hominid fossils; genetics from fossils and modern humans; and archaeological evidence in the form of artifacts, features, and specific sites.
