Write an essay on the topic provided, making sure that your answer demonstrates your knowledge of the course concepts. Begin by defining the key terms and concepts, and stating the relationship of these terms and concepts to one another. Then move on to write your response to the topic question, addressing each of the four assertions made about human rights.
Clearly reference the source of any information that you paraphrase or quote directly, including material from the Study Guide units. Any commonly used format for academic citation is acceptable, including MLA, Chicago, and APA style.
Before you start, review the Athabasca University Calendar for information about, interpretations of, and penalties for plagiarism and academic misconduct. Be sure to contact your tutor if you have any questions or concerns about this assignment.
Part-2
Your essay is to address the following two questions:
- Referring to four of the Supreme Court of Canada cases you read, what human rights claims about unionization and collective bargaining rights have workers advanced under the Charter?
- To what degree have these claims been successful? Include explicit discussion of the Supreme Court decisions you read in Unit 3.
Instructions: For each case, your essay must identify the main issue(s) and explain how each issue is linked to a Charter right. Your essay must also explain how the case was decided and what implications the decision had for worker unionization and collective bargaining.
