OVERVIEWOF ASSIGNMENT
This assignment requires you to consider a technological innovation of your choice that will help solve a problem(s) humanity may likely face in the future.In completing this assignment, committed students will have attained:
o A deeper understanding of how technological innovation develops and evolves
o A deeper understanding of the roles people play in the process
o A deeper understanding of the impact of technological innovation at different levels
Your participation in the second discussion forum (DBF #2) relied on your instincts to answer the question, What is technological innovation? Specifically, you were asked to reflect on your own prior knowledge and experiences to define technological innovation without referencing any outside sources of information. This last written assignment will involve a more purposeful, guided analysis of technological innovation considering future creations. You will need to conduct independent research on an emerging or future innovation of your choice andreflecton course content covered throughout this semester to develop a well thought out paper.
I. INDEPENDENT RESEARCH:
There is more to technological innovation than the commercialization of a product (goods or services) or process. Ideation and the creative act of making something new is only the first step in a long path to successful innovation. Technological innovation at some point takes root in some way, making changes over time in materials, cultures, and practices, thereby leading to historical significance.
First, choose an emerging or future technological innovation that will help solve a problem humanity may likely face. Then, conduct research on this topic. A clear example will help focus your efforts to best convey your understanding of technological innovation and course content, as well as bring clarity and organization to your paper.
Inside the Assignment #3 Folder, you will find(a) a YouTube video on Amazon Go, (b) a link to Timelines of Inventions & Key Events, and (c) a PDF showinga general progression of modes of transportation in Indiana (from canals for boats, to railroads for trains, to roadways for automobiles, etc.). Review these and prior materials to spark ideas to research and write about.
II. COMPREHENSIVE PAPER
By the time you submit your paper on a technological innovation of the future, you will have:
o Reached beyond midway through the course
o Completed Assignment 2 pertaining to past / present discoveries
o Reviewed your peers' topics for Assignment 2 (i.e., DBF #3)
o Watched various videos available via PBS, Films on Demand, Nova
o Read relevant PPT slides, scholarly articles, book chapters, etc.
o Completed several Sycamore e-Learning modules, activities, etc.
MAIN BODY
Introduction
Summarize your initial thought or intrigue at the point of initiating the research. This summary will serve as an introductory paragraph that will help set the stage for the rest of your paper.
