Other diseases included smallpox, measles, influenza, tuberculosis, diphtheria, anthrax, trachoma, and last major spread of disease was syphilis. Which was the most devastating? The bubonic plague known as (Black Death). In just one day this disease was capable of killing 5,000 to 10,000 people. Why were they so feared?

They were so fearful of the disease due to the cause was unknown. What factors contributed to the spread?

Contact with others who have the disease such as humans and animals.

What were some of the strategies used to by people to prevent these diseases? The Italians submitted health professionals to prevent disease and they implemented ways to store meat and produce and distribute drugs.

The English find better ways to dispose their sewage, so they avoid contaminating water. Lastly a preventative strategy was to exile people form individuals who are contaminated with contagious diseases. After reading Chapter 2, in your opinion why were epidemics so much more common in the Middle Ages versus the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Rome?

In my opinion the answer would be better hygiene. Better Hygiene lead them to various ways to expose waste and invent bacteria killing substances such as soap. I think they thought if we kill the smell of rot then we get rid of infectious bacteria.
