Discussion Post: Capstone Change Project Implementation Plan
Clinical, qualitative and financial considerations when developing evidence-based nursing change proposals
After a long discussion with the teacher, we came to the conclusion that it is important to identify three aspects when implementing evidence-based change proposals. The envisioned solution for this project is patient education to enable older patients with type 2 diabetes to manage their condition to avoid the risk of vascular complications.
The economic aspect considered in this aspect is whether the possible solution will reduce the cost of access to medical care for vascular complications and other related diabetic complications by the elderly. There is great potential for reducing medical costs through patient education as it helps patients practice self-management better (Paterick et al., 2017, p.112). Therefore, with quality patient education, older diabetics are expected to know how to manage their illness on their own. This will prevent vascular complications and will significantly reduce readmission rates for people with complications.
Quality care means implementing a system that ensures that the patient is harmless and that all actions optimize the patient's care and outcomes. In the change project, the quality maintenance aspect is promoted in various ways. Nurses adequately provide accurate and reliable information to older patients (AllenDuck et al., 2017). This allows patients to receive only relevant information to improve self-care. Another quality aspect to consider is the continuity of the education program. Since these are elderly patients, they may need to be alerted at all times.
A clinical aspect considered in this project is the availability of nurses to help rush to properly educate patients. The shortage of caregivers is a problem, and if caregivers are tired and overworked, they may not be able to properly raise the elderly. Even a handful of nurses will find it important to consider better ways to effectively educate their patients.
After discussion with your preceptor, name one financial aspect, one quality aspect, and one clinical aspect that need to be taken into account for developing the evidence-based change proposal. Explain how your proposal will directly and indirectly impact each of the aspects.
The response must include a reference list. Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
