Other Application: Through this class, I have learned many new sociological concepts and a new way of thinking about society and people. As someone from the upper middle class "social class," the most important thing I have taken from this class is understanding diversity. This has allowed me to see society from a different lens, not just within my social bubble. I now understand more about the social structure and inequality the minority class suffers daily and how things such as race, gender, and ethnicity affect people's lives differently, often in very profound ways. For example, suppose someone belongs to a lower social class. In that case, they are already at a disadvantage, and identities such as race, gender, etc, only compound these disadvantages in the case of these people (Ferris, 2022,p.233). Ultimately, this has helped me realize the privilege of being raised in my respective social class. I have access to things that many don't simply because of my parents and whom they know within our social bracket. This has been a positive thing for me to write about and research during my final paper; it has enlightened me about the immense social inequality this country still has despite strides to lessen this gap. It has also given me answers on how members of my social class can advocate for change regarding this, which, if utilized, can create meaningful structural change in our society.
