 Family Case Study:

Sharon is a 19-year-old African-American woman struggling with trauma and anger. Sharon has a 4-year-old daughter, Grace, who was recently molested by Sharon's boyfriend. Sharon attempted to press charges but due to lack of evidence, the case is not proceeding at this time. Sharon's family has become very protective of Sharon's daughter and blames Sharon for everything that happened. They are also Sharon's only support system and tend to be very controlling and verbally abusive towards her at times. Sharon and Grace currently live with Sharon's parents after moving out of the boyfriend's apartment due to these events. Sharon is not working at this time because she has sickle cell anemia and has recently been in and out of the hospital several times. Sharon reports that she is very depressed and struggles with self-care, and that she is not always good about taking her medications and attending follow-up appointments. Sharon is beginning to recognize that she is in a cycle of not caring for herself which leads to increased reliance on her parents who are financially supportive but not emotionally healthy. She wants to find ways to break this cycle and be more independent but doesn't know where to start
