How you advocate yourself without jeopardizing employment

Problem: When we think of therapist impairment, we often have the tendency to blame the individual. With decreased insurance reimbursement rates, agencies are loading therapists up with unmanageable caseloads. This happened to me early in my career. I quickly realized that I have the tendency to shut down when I am tired, which can be a form of impairment. It took some work, but I was able to help my supervisor understand that ethically, I could not see as many patients that the business wanted me to see; and that decreasing my daily work load would help increase customer service. However, this argument could have easily been misconstrued as laziness. How would you make sure to advocate for yourself without jeopardizing your employment?
