How would you manage a patient as a dental hygienist

CASE STUDY --- Pt present with a large sore on the LL lip area that is oozing. Pt unaware of how he got the lesion. He thinks it is a cold sore. Reschedule appt for today. Refer to OS. -Received letter from OS stating that the lesion was Syphilis stage 1: Chancre. Pt given tetracycline antibiotic to take for 14 days. Pt was called and rescheduled to see us for routine care in 6 weeks. -2 months after initial referral of lesion pt is back in office for his routine visit, but the patient's sore seems to have progressed inside the mouth. Pt states that he did not finish his antibiotics. He knows that he should have but it was upsetting his stomach so as soon as the lesion got better he discontinued use. Unfortunately it appears that the infection has spread. We will not be seeing the patient today, and we will be referring him back to the OS to reevaluate the new lesions.
