Conflict of interest may be when an I/O practitioner is hired to coach an internal executive team but does not disclose that they are related to one of their clients. Another example of conflict of interest may be that an I/O practitioner is hired to consultant on the best talent in a given area for a highly specialized position but is also hired by a competing company to secure the same person for a similar role. Segal (2022) states that a conflict of interest is when an individual becomes unreliable due to a clash of interests. Crelin (2022) state that when individual holds multiple contradicting interests that can influence each other, they are in a conflict of interest. In both examples, the practitioner cannot act unbiasedly, as their decisions are ultimately influenced by their situation.
