A. Summarize Friedman's approach. Why does he argue that "social responsibility" in business management is hypocritical and fraudulent? Do you agree with Friedman, or do you think his approach is too "profits" and selfishly oriented?
B. Explain Sen's argument. What are the two ways that he thinks good business behavior could make economic sense? Do you agree or disagree with Sen, that good ethics makes for good business?
C. How would Friedman and Sen approach the Merck case?
D. Would you have gambled on the success of the drug, even at the risk that it would never make a profit? Can you think of any creative ways that Merck might have turned a profit and also served the public interest?
