Problem: Create discussion response, In conclusion, workforce deficits pose an enormous challenge for healthcare systems, leaders and individuals. Nursing shortages cause the demand for nurses to rise, which in turn triggers more nurses to leave the profession and without a solution, the challenge is only set to grow. This research is a systematic review and narrative synthesis of the determinants of a nurse's decision to stay. The study identifies organizational, relational or individual factors of a nurse's decision to stay and isolate factors that are weighted by age and career stage. This new knowledge is collated and presented as a Nurse Intention to Stay: Theoretical framework of protective factors (Table 3). The framework has been designed to guide retention strategies and provides a forward-looking, solutions-focused knowledge base on which further research can build.
