The focus for the next couple of weeks needs to be completing a revised draft of your Proposal. Post an update of your progress on your dissertation proposal. How will you work with your chair to help complete this revised draft? What do you need to do to complete this draft? What challenges have you encountered while working on your proposal this week?
I turned in revised prospectus draft on August 1, 2017, got the feedback on August 8, 2017 (all the while reading the templates for both the dissertation prospectus and the dissertation proposal) and had several scheduled and unscheduled conference calls regarding my progress, in addition to explaining my personal situation (handled the situation now, so now I am focused).
At approximately 11:30 p.m. , I had submitted the chapter 1 dissertation proposal draft. Reviewing again the dissertation proposal template, there are a lot of sections that need to be address, and now I am feeling overwhelmed, but at the same time motivated to get caught up, since the revised dissertation prospectus draft was 6 days late, I knew that my personal matter being resolved is a good thing, but the focus away from this course and the assignments was a bad thing.
With this being said, I am concerned about chapter 2 and chapter 3 since the content was not read due to the fact that I am still missing sections in the revised prospectus draft and the document was kicked back (Although turned in to get some points). I think the weekly conversations that I will be having with Dr. Danielle Rowell certainly helps, but I do wish in a way that someone could hold my hand and walk me line by line of what I am doing wrong.
Constructive criticisms are welcomed, but I do wish I had more one on one face time. Perhaps, for future students, there can be a general research methods class to start working on the dissertation templates and walk through line by line so by the time we get to advanced research design, the templates and work for the prospectus and proposal was already worked. Perhaps having research design and advance research design back to back, and then heading into courses for the program, dissertation 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Challenges, I faced (at the most critical moment in my doctoral journey) was personal issues that was already discussed with Dr. Danielle Rowell and handled. However, the lost of focus and drive due to these personal issues did not help in my doctoral situation right now. However, I have renewed energy and focus. I believe with the conference calls, and hopefully, classmates in the California area (hopefully we can be a moral support for each other) will help me along this journey.
