Problem
In the course of your studies this week you encountered a number of important principles that scholars employ for interpreting the parables of Jesus. Yet, there is no mutually agreed upon method of academic study for doing so given the difficulty of the biblical text itself. At the heart of the issue appears to be a matter of interpretation argued by Julicher that each parable makes only one main point and that the details within the parables were not to be allegorized. The more contemporary view is that one main point is associated with each main character or a group of characters that results in at least three (3) main points for personal application. Based upon your studies and research this past week: Compare and contrast these two interpretative methods for the parables of Jesus. Academically defend your position as to whether-or-not the single or multiple approach to the interpretation of Jesus' parables is the most effective and why? How will this method of interpretation assist your study of Jesus and His use of them as a teaching method and why?
