Problem
Ritzer and Stepnisky complete their introduction by describing the organizing principles for their text. Classical theories examine theorists such as Durkheim, Marx, and Weber, described by Ritzer and Stepnisky as major figures in the history of sociological theory. Grand theories are classified as those theories which try to explain the great changes in the social world, while theories of everyday life focus on the more ordinary activities such as individual thought and action and the interaction between two or more people. Ritzer and Stepnisky conclude their text with a brief overview of what they describe as "globalization theory." Which theoretical orientation would be most useful for discussing questions such as: Is religion still important in the lives of Canadians? How will Canadian cities have to change to adapt to increasing urbanization? Will a university arts education still have a place in the economy of the next 100 years? Could all four sociological orientations (including globalization) be useful in some way?
