Problem
Early in the 20th century, Sigmund Freud studied the ego, its place in our psyche as "the part that controls thought and behavior and interprets external reality. In short, he said ego is self-awareness" (p. 26).
As Blanchard and Hodges discuss ego, they are referring to "heart issues" not "a psychological term." They state "we have two simple definitions of ego:
EGO- Edging God Out or
EGO- Exalting God Only" (p. 26).
In short, ego is pride in this context.
Questions for Reflection:
• What are some ways that we can sometimes let other things "edge GOD out" (p. 27)?
• When this happens, have you found a positive response to ensure that your focus does not center on pride or ego?
• How might we focus ourselves on Exalting God Only in our work and professional life?
