Years ago, I had a close friend who worked in a management setting at a local golf course. He was often in charge of hiring the staff. I once asked him what strategies he used to make decision about who to hire. I was surprised when he told me that the first thing he noticed when someone walked in to an interview was whether or not their shoes were shiny and clean. He admitted that he was less likely to hire them if they had dirty shoes. Thinking about professional image, how do you convey this to others?
