Assignment task: We use writing in a variety of situations, and the way we write often changes depending on the purpose and intended reader/audience. Reflect on your previous experience with writing in a variety of situations (Informal writing examples: social media, texting with friends, diaries/journals, notes to family/friends. Formal writing examples: school assignments, writing for a job (resume, letter of intent, emails, charts/reports, et cetera). Complete the following:
- List the variety of reasons you wrote/write and explain what your writing for each situation was like.
- How was your writing style different depending on the audience/intended reader? Provide examples and explanation.
- Finally, review the Academic Writing and Common Mistakes to Avoid Lecture and this week's readings and discuss what information is new to you and what were you aware of previously.
- How will your writing change for the assignments for this class (what will you proofread for)?
- If you wish, you can ask general questions about writing experiences to your classmates that they can respond to in their response post.
