Assignment: Persuasive Essay Characteristics
In a persuasive essay, the writer assumes a position on a subject-which your text refers to as taking a stand-and then tries to persuade his/her readers to agree with that position by supplying evidence that is accurate and trustworthy.
In this assignment, you will have an opportunity to evaluate the strategies other writers use to write persuasive essays.

• Read either Last Rites for Indian Dead or Not a Place for Profit in The Bedford Guide for College Writers.
• Answer the Questions to Start You Thinking (both the Meaning and Strategies sections) at the end of the essay you choose.
