Problem: When we think about air pollution, we often think of air pollution somewhere else, but not in our community or our air. The United States and Canada have done a very good job reducing the amount of outdoor air pollution. Unfortunately, air, like many things, does not stay in one spot. California, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska have all received and measured significant air pollution coming from China and India. Air pollution and airborne particulate have a signature that allows scientists to determine the source of this pollution.
What do you think that we should do? Does this mean that we should reduce the U.S. air pollution standards? Once the pollution arrives in the U.S., is it still international pollution or is it now our air pollution because it impacts our lives? What do you think?
