How to maintain social control and stability in society

Assignment task:

Responding to two discussion board questions whether you agree or disagree with their responses. You will have two different responses don't combine them.

1. I think that the most effective form of maintaining social control and stability in society is through the internalization of societal norms. As we grow up most of us are taught the difference between good and bad. Our decisions are then based on these social norms we learned, as we stop and question what the proper choice is. Society is then able to maintain its stability as every individual enforces the moral codes they learned from their parents and their values.

2. I believe laws are really important for maintaining social control because they clearly outline what type of behavior is acceptable and what behavior is not acceptable in society. It keeps people in check by scaring them with consequences when they commit crimes such as murder, robbery, fraud, or other crimes. Furthermore, I think families bring stability to society because they often give people an unconditional support system and something to live for. People know that if they commit a crime they will likely be in jail and only be able to see their relatives a limited amount of times a week which can discourage people from committing crimes and can encourage people to behave when in jail so they can get out more quickly.
