How to integrate into your future clinical practice

Assignment task:

Your clinical placement is in a residential aged care facility (RACF), and you are working with Rita Angelos, Registered Nurse.

You go with Rita to a resident's room where Mrs Meera Singh (72 years of age) has been complaining of a burning sensation while passing urine for the past couple of days. Mrs Singh has a Fiji Indian background and has a son who lives interstate. Her husband passed away recently, and she misses him and often gets upset because of that. Mrs Singh has to be reminded to drink fluids and she does not like drinking water at all. She tries to remain as independent as possible and always tries to toilet herself despite being a single assist classified resident according to her care plan. She tries to remain in contact with her son via phone and has access to her own landline phone in her room. She is not confident with using a smartphone and other digital devices for communication. Mrs Singh misses her grandchildren and sees them only once a year during Diwali, but the pandemic has been difficult in that regard. Her first language is Hindi, and she struggles to communicate in English but is always very happy when a carer who can speak Hindi attends to her.
