How to effectively communicate in a business setting

How does emotional intelligence affect the ability to effectively communicate in a business setting? Explain how self-awareness is a factor and what impact it has on workplace communication both formally and informally.

Response:

In a business setting emotionally intelligent people are calm and able to be aware of their own feelings while also sensing the emotions of others. They are able to observe and question, and kind of master their emotions, seeing things without reacting. Being self-aware of emotions they can observe and be in charge of their feelings and possible reactions and not allow them to take over. Showing others you are self aware can mean just being human and allowing others to know you do not have all the answers and can show you are open and welcome to the input of others. This can make you more approachable. In the workplace people need to stay calm and not react so they have to think about what is going on and how to handle anything that comes up.  If there is an upsetting situation the emotionally intelligent person can evaluate and be a leader to others in how to handle the situation. You can let others know you are open to recognizing how you may not know how to solve a problem and ask for their insight into solving things.
