How the system is stacked against her

Problem: Donald is a 7-year-old boy at a school where you work as a social worker. His mom is a Black woman who is struggling and having a hard time paying for child care and is embarrassed to ask for help within her community or at the school. So she tells Donald to stay at school as long as he can, and then if people start asking, he should head home. She hid a key in an umbrella stand outside of their apartment door, and he knew where it was. She leaves him a snack and is usually home within 90 minutes to 2 hours from when he arrives. She explains to him that although it seems unfair, they can't let anyone know about their problems because the government will take him away. While this may not be entirely true, there is certainly some truth to her words. Donald's mother was asked to come to school by the principal to discuss the concern that Donald stays late every day but won't say why. You feel that you should help her understand how the system is stacked against her so that she does not feel guilt or shame and is more
