Commerce, art, and science were transactional elements of culture in Florence and Sienna. The Western terminus of the Silk Road and the financiers of the new empires sought to establish both dominance and authority in the emerging empires.
Discuss how the integration of commerce, art, and science (and the Black Death) changed the social practices of Europe and influenced the experiences we have now.
