Assignment:
This paper will be your reflection/thoughts on gender construction, socialization, and discrimination. As with every reflection paper, it should be 1 to 2 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font (and no weird/extra spacing/fillers) - and you need to refer (make a connection) to at least one of the readings assigned for this week.
While watching "Girls toys vs boys toys," take notes on and/or think about the following questions:
o How do we treat babies/children differently based on what we think their gender is? Examples from the video? Examples from your own life?
Now reflect on the following questions:
1. How do you know what it means to behave/look like a man or a woman?
2. What/who were the most significant socializing agents/influences in teaching you how to be a man or a woman?
3. How do our social constructions of gender influence social problems like gender discrimination we see in our workplaces, sexual assault and our responses to it, and the relationship between masculinity and mass shootings?
