Situational factors and individual officer factors play a huge role in the decisions that officers make and their use of discretion. List and fully explain the 10 situational factors and the 3 individual officer factors and talk about their importance. Then, list the total 13 factors from most important to least important and include a sentence for each explaining why you think the factor is important or not. This information can be located starting on page 277 in your textbook.
Officer's decision making abilities is one of the most important (if not the most) tools that they can have. Understanding the factors that come in to play for each situation can help officers to come to sound conclusions each time a situation occurs. Not understanding these factors increases the chances of use of force, unsatisfactory resolutions, and the chances for police misconduct.
