Problem
My name is Kayla Boothe and I am majoring in Biomedical Sciences. I am getting closer to the finish line and will be finished with my degree December 2023. After graduation I plan to work as a Neuromonitoring Specialist and am also considering applying to PA or medical school. I don't have a broad understanding of genetics but as of right now I am fascinated with gene mutations. I personally have the sickle cell disease trait and have always been fascinated with understanding how sickle cell anemia is expressed as well as being cautious of who I end up having children with. If I were to have a child with another person with the trait then our child could end up having sickle cell disease, which is not a life I would want for them.
The article that I chose discusses selective breeding of psyllium fiber to help aide in gut health. According to the article, many humans experience GI issues when digesting psyllium fiber that is found in many foods. However, research has shown that modifying the fiber can help alleviate the GI issues that people are experiencing. I found this article to be interesting because in the last few years the importance of gut health for our overall health has become apparent and I find all research pertaining to this topic interesting.
