How should we begin to plan for such an event

Assignment task: It is estimated that if all the water locked in the Antarctic Ice Sheet were to melt, sea level would rise 50-60 meters (~180 ft). This will clearly flood large areas of our coastlines. How should we begin to plan for such an event?

1. We should do nothing until scientists can prove that global warming is a fact and that it will cause a major rise in sea level.

2. We should begin to evacuate our coastal communities now because temperatures have been increasing and the Antarctic Ice Sheet is melting.

3. We should have a plan for how to build large levees and flood protection for our coastal cities and start laying the foundation for those structures now.

4. We should take the property of any person who collects insurance due to a major loss from flooding or storms on the coast and begin putting that land into a national park system.

5. Other ideas?
