Discussion
There are many leadership models that have been marketed, researched, and utilized by management professionals and I/O Psychologists over the decades. During the last decade, the Servant Leader model has become widely popular in the United States, and is now spreading to organizations in other countries. Some of the most prominent business leaders of the day, such as Ken Blanchard, James Autry, and Stephen Covey, are proponents of Servant Leadership. As such, it is important for I/O Psychologists to understand what Servant Leadership is, to be able to speak intelligently within the workplace, but also to discern whether this particular model is one they may wish to utilize in their own leadership development work within organizations.
You must read in the Library the following article about Servant Leadership:
Parris, D., & Peachey, J. (2013). A systematic literature review of Servant Leadership Theory in organizational contexts. Journal of Business Ethics, 113(3), 377-393.
Discuss the following in about 400-500 words
• What Servant Leadership is
• How Servant Leadership differs in emphasis from more traditional models of leadership?
• Why you believe it has become a dominant model of leadership in the U.S. during the past decade?
