I. Discuss the importance of priming in our everyday lives. Real-world examples to stimulate your thinking might be how watching a horror movie can later make an unexplained "creaky" noise in the house seem ominous or how we have certain expectations about teacher and student behavior when we enter a classroom. How do expectations that we bring to contexts or situations benefit us, facilitating perception and memory? How are we hindered when our expectations are violated? What does the pervasiveness of priming tell us about human cognition?
II. Discuss how taking the context of a statement into account and making inferences and assumptions aids in our comprehension of indirect statements and lexically ambiguous statements
III. Discuss how confirmation bias plays a role in perpetuating stereotypes. Discuss how selective attention causes some evidence to be overlooked. Include the concepts of base rates and illusory correlations in the discussion.
