How remote working is a perfect example of adaptability

Problem: Response on how you feel about this opinion, agree or disagree with supporting points adaptability is more important than efficiency. We live in an era of new technologies and globalization. Things are changing quickly, and organizations have to take more risk now than ever to survive through competition and instability. Covid has also disrupted a lot of work routines in the past. Remote working is a perfect example of adaptability.

For organization structure, it should depend on the company's business focus to decide whether it should adopt a functional or client-based or geographical or product structure. There is no one size fits all, but if the company is sizable enough, it would make sense to go for a matrix structure so there are specialized teams looking after customization in each product or region.

I do not think there are any trade-offs if companies focus on adaptability. The ultimate goal is to make things work and bring efficiency in an ever-changing environment. If the company cannot deal with uncertainty and changes, there will be no efficiency either. In other words, adaptability is the new efficiency.

I would advise my CEO to encourage an agile culture and provide specific training to staff on agility and adaptability. It is important to equip everyone, especially people managers with the ability to read and act on disruption signals.
