Assignment: MULTICULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY
Instructions
For this task, imagine that the instructor at a local community college's Introductory Psychology course has invited you to deliver a presentation on the multicultural viewpoint on developmental psychology.
Prepare a lecture that addresses the following:
• Give an overview of Bowlby's attachment theory, Kohlberg's theory of moral development, and Piaget's theory of cognitive development.
• Present research that either supports or criticizes the applicability of these theories in different cultures.
• Include examples from the text, or from your own experience, of children who did not seem to conform to the one or more of the theories referred to in your lecture. How did this child fit into or conflict with expectations of family or culture?
• Conclude your lecture with your own reflections on how well psychology is able to deal with differences in culture, and whether or not it is appropriate to draw conclusions about human beings in general, based on studies done in one culture.
