Problem
Early in the course, we discussed how prevalent narratives surrounding adolescence represent teenagers as 'folk-devils' who are dangerous, irresponsible, and prone to criminality. Later, we discussed ways in which youth 'on the margins' can be approached to be engaging in acts of resilience. For this response, you are first asked to explain the processes through which negative representations of adolescents are distributed and legitimized in Western society. Second, please explain the concept of resilience and describe forms of youth conduct that can be characterized as forms of resilience. Finally, please critically discuss how folk-devil representations of adolescence and the resilience strategies endorsed by adolescents may have a mutual influence upon one another.
