How policy advocates can influence outcomes of elections

Assignment Task:

Policy advocates can influence outcomes of elections and elections can determine which policies will be enacted. According to Jansson (2018), the values of those elected will steer the content of the policies that are favored and passed which make congressional elections so important because they hold the power to pass federal policies that have much greater power than state and local governments. Thousands of new bills are proposed each year however, few make it. Burstein (2005) reveals that trends in sponsorship tend to be a good indicator of support. Sponsorship and elective candidates are high sources to actually get a bill or policy passed as there needs to be momentum and drive behind it. If pursuing policy advocacy, finding a candidate who emphasizes with the vulnerable community that the policy involves may be one of the best ways to get it moved and passed. Keep in mind that if it is a policy that has been deliberated before, the response to the policy will be a reflection of the past policy. Therefore it is vital to persuade, enlighten, and confront, differences or those perceptions from the past policy.
