How peoples participation vital in political processes

Problem:

People's participation is important in deciding the political processes and this makes it important for the growth of democracy. Besides voting, participation entails such things as working for campaigns, attending protest, affiliated membership in support groups, and contributing to local debate. But a number of barriers exist which infringe the rights and limit the participation especially in the act of voting. Such tactics as restrictive ID laws and gerrymandering are voter suppression that discriminates minorities and other marginalized groups by denying them the vote. This results into political disengagement whereby people feel out of place in the political process and think that their vote won't matter (Verba, Schlozman & Brady, 1995). Furthermore, other logistical hurdles such as long queues at polling stations, and limited access to voter registration turn off the voters, especially in areas with little resources (Pettigrew, 2020). The removal of such barriers is important as a first step towards making democracy more participating for all in the society.
