Obesity is a significant public health concern worldwide because it increases the risk of developing other serious health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers (World Health Organization, n.d.).
The impact of obesity on public healthcare systems varies depending on the country or region. In general, obesity places a significant burden on healthcare systems by increasing the demand for medical services and treatment. In the United States, for example, obesity-related healthcare costs are estimated to exceed billions of dollars per year. These costs include medical expenses, lost productivity, and disability (Harvard University, 2016).
To address the obesity epidemic, healthcare delivery systems work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including public health agencies, healthcare providers, researchers, educators, and policymakers. They develop and implement evidence-based interventions that promote healthy behaviors and prevent obesity.
