How nurses affect public policy in appointed positions

Problem 1: Give one example of how nurses can affect public policy in various appointed positions. Clearly state an appointed position and the role associated with it that can affect public policy.

Problem 2: Identify your legislators for the state and national level of California. Please include district numbers for both your state level representatives and senators, as well as those on the national level. To respond to this item, you will have two US senators, one US Congressman, one state senator and one state representative

Problem 3: If you were to need the support of one of your legislators specific to a health policy of interest to you, which one of your representatives as you identified in question 2 would you choose as your legislative contact? Why? Go to either your state website or to Congress.gov and see which committees your legislator is on and/or what their policy interests are....this could give you rationale for the why in this item. Be specific and share what committees he/she is on and/or their policy interests

Problem 4: Identify a bill related to a health care issue affecting advanced practice nurses for which legislation has currently or recently been proposed or passed in a state legislature or in Congress. The bill should be no older than 18 months old. The bill should relate to your primary care management of hypertension.

a) List the number of the bill, the title of the bill, and the date of the bill.

b) Describe how the chosen piece of legislation will specifically affect your practice as an advanced practice nurse. Expand 'b' by sharing the impact this chosen bill has on primary care management of hypertension
