Many industrial plants generate their own steam. The boiler cannot be operated so as to respond immediately to demand fluctuations and it is convenient to use an accumulator in the steam supply system. This simply a large tank in which steam can be stored when demand is low and withdrawn when demand is high. In this particular plant the accumulator has a volume of 10 m3 and is initially two thirds full of water at 80 oC. How much steam saturated at 15 bar can be stored? After the accumulator is fully loaded with the 15 bar steam, how much steam at 5 bar can be withdrawn?
