How modern day hollywood can accommodate the artistic

Problem

In The Studio System of the Annenberg Learner's American Cinema video series, legendary actor Charlton Heston paraphrased the famous writer/director Garson Kanin, who said:

So, it can be seen that the trouble with the motion-picture art was (and is) that it is too much an industry; and the trouble with the motion picture industry is that it is too much an art. It is out of this basic contradiction that most of the ills of the form arise.

A study completed by UCLA's Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies titled Hollywood Diversity Report: Making Sense of the Disconnect concluded that even today the Hollywood motion picture industry is out of touch with an increasingly diverse American population. Ironically, the study concluded that diversity in TV and film productions increases viewers and ultimately results in higher profits for studios and TV networks.

In light of the above, reflect and share your ideas about how modern day Hollywood can accommodate the artistic as well as the economic demands of contemporary American filmmakers and audiences.
