Problem:
Clifford, age 22 identifies as Chinese American and he recently announced his engagement to Mary. Mary identifies as Jewish. Clifford's family is very upset and refuses to acknowledge his relationship and soon to be marriage to Mary. His parents have made it clear that they will not accept a White woman into their family and if he marries, he is on his own. Clifford is feeling lost and sad about his parents rigidness and refusal to live in the 21st century. How might you begin to work with Clifford in addressing the grief and loss he feels? What do you need to know? How might research guide your assessment?
