Problem:
Traditionally, physician orders lean heavily in the direction of traditional care of withholding any nutrition until the passing of flatus occurs following surgery (Ituk & Habib, 2018). Focusing on the holistic care of the patient by incorporating evidence-based pathways will help meet more of the needs of the patient as a whole. The nurses will also gain knowledge and understanding regarding the evidence-based practice and thus increase their knowledge base and critical thinking skills in order to care more holistically for their future patients. As healthcare professionals, it is our duty to provide the best possible care available to the populations we serve which include the implementation of evidence-based practice protocols and pathways in order to treat the patient holistically and humanly.
