Problem: Stop for a moment and think about not only how Marie-Antoinette was surveilled and scrutinized in her lifetime, but as well about how and why women who are more in the public eye, be it in business or politics, etc., seem to be more scrutinized. While Marie-Antoinette technically had no power, no authority, consider how she compares to some of the other women leaders we have learned about so far in this course, as well as some of the historically relevant ones you already know about from elsewhere and/or those in our present day. To do so is to better understand why the quest for women's rights and women's equality, unfortunately, came to end as women's political clubs and patriotic societies were closed and notable "public" women were sent to the guillotine.
