Assignment task:
During the age of the Star System, studios "owned" their actors. If a certain actor starred in films for Twentieth Century Fox, they could not work for any other studio (unless there was a contract agreement between studios-like "renting" actors). Often, these actors were given stage names and marketed like commodities. For example, John Wayne; real name: Marion Morrison. How could the studios financially back a star, equated with masculinity, with the name Marion? Conundrum...
Although modern day actors are free to make choices about the films they will star in, some remain loyal to certain studios. Research a modern day actor and tell what studio they remain loyal to...how many films have they done for the studio? Are the films related in genre and subject matter OR are they completely diverse. Has this actor changed or morphed their name?
