Problem
University systems offers a walk-in clinic for Flu shots. Patients arrive at a rate of 30 per hour. Each shot takes 5 minutes. There are 3 technicians to administer the shots.
Assume that customer arrivals follow a Poisson distribution, and that service times follow an exponential probability distribution (making all CV's = 1). Customers will always wait for a shot.
I. What is the waiting time for a patient to receive a shot in minutes ?
II. How many customers on average are waiting for a shot?
III. After process improvement the clinic is able to reduce the mean processing time for a shot to 4 minutes with a standard of 3 minutes. What is the new wait time for a patient to receive a shot?
