How local organizations providing services to families

Assignment task:

For this project, you will locate/research 2-4 local organizations providing services to families with children ages 0-8 with a specific need/trauma i.e., domestic violence, incarcerations, addiction, homelessness, etc. For this, you will consider yourself as someone helping hypothetical families in need locate resources useful for them

Your tasks are:

Locate (through internet searching) 2-4 organizations/districts/social service agencies providing services as indicated above. A "Letter of Introduction" is provided, to introduce yourself to the organizations

Communicate with the agencies to find out what services they provide. Think about what information your hypothetical families will need in order to understand why they should work with them. There may be some details on a company's website for you to gather important information, but there are specific items (outlined below) you will need to add to your project. This will require calling/emailing/visiting the agencies to get your questions answered.

Your information will be put together in a Power Point presentation format and shared with the rest of the class via Discussions module (presentation may include music/You Tube links and/or interesting effects/graphics).

Your Project will be put together as follows:

Slide 1: Title of your project.

Slides 2-4: Introduce your organizations, including name and address; phone number; contact people, their title and phone number (1-2 on slide).

Slides 3-5: Give brief descriptions of the hypothetical families and their situations.

Slides 4-6+ (this section requires several slides): Describe what each organization does (here you should present one organization at a time). What are their goals? Ask yourself, "How will they support the families I am helping?" How are services provided (their location, client homes, community rooms in libraries, etc.)? What is the cost to the clients? These sections should provide enough detail of your agencies, allowing the hypothetical families you are trying to help to garner a good picture of the organizations.

Slide/Section 7-10+ (this section requires several slides): Summarize your overall impression of the organizations (again, do this for one agency at a time), from first contact, to last contact. Include their mission statements, their histories, their growth (or decline) and anything else you feel important to share, that you have not already shared.

Slide/Section 11-13+ (this section requires several slides): Reflection: For group projects, each student will write their own reflection, on their own slide, responding to the prompts provided here (if in a group, include your name at the end of your reflection).

Reflect on your experience

Questions to discuss in reflection:

Why did you choose the agencies, how easy/difficult was they to locate?

What went well and not so well completing this project?

What do you believe are the strengths and challenges of the agencies? Why?

Ideas for change?
