Assignment task:
1. You've learned the ways that light plays an important role in photography, but what other professions, creative or otherwise, also rely on light in some essential way? Identify and describe at least two other professions where light plays an important role and evaluate what this role is.
2. You are setting up a studio photo shoot where you will be capturing portrait images of people performing various day-to day-life activities-cooking, cleaning, sleeping, and eating. Describe in specific detail the way that you would set up the lighting for this type of shoot (and the different lighting for the different life activities), exploring what you would do if you wanted to use only natural lighting and what you would do if you wanted to use only studio light.
3. Look around at your current surroundings. What type of light is present? If someone were to take a photo of you from the front, what type of lighting would be present in the image? Evaluate and describe the type of lighting in your present surroundings and the various types of lighting that would be present if someone were to take your photo right now.
4. Head online to explore various images, specifically focusing on their lighting. Find images that showcase backlighting, side lighting, natural lighting, golden hour lighting, and one more type of lighting of your choice. Either copy the images in your answer or simply describe them, explaining how each type of lighting is seen in the images.
5. (Extra credit question) Just as lighting plays an important role in photographs, it also plays an important role in film and television. Identify a movie or television show that you feel does an exceptionally impressive job of showcasing and utilizing different types of lighting to add to the scenes. Describe the various types of lighting and the impact that it has on the film or TV show.
